In the 1902—03 season, at least three categories of junior cricket were operational. The premier category was known as the MELBOURNE SPORTS DEPOT competition, which was governed by the Melbourne Sports Depot establishment. The second grade, METROPOLITAN MATTING competition, was also under the auspices of the Melbourne Sports Depot. The third grade, termed MELBOURNE SPORTS DEPOT COMPETITION THIRD GRADE, followed suit.
